While researching for this blog I have learnt a lot about being an illustrator for comics and graphic novels. Copyright was something I didn’t really know anything about so it’s very reassuring knowing there are things in place to protect my illustrations. Learning about the Creative Commons licence is helpful as well because I now know there are ways I can ensure I have a say in how my work may be used for freelance jobs and also getting proper credit. I didn’t realise that the people an illustrator works with, like publishers, were so close with the process as well, giving feedback and offering ideas to the illustrators work. I’ve found it very useful looking into Illustrator’s personal experiences working in this industry, especially the author of ‘The Magic Fish’, Trung Le Nguyen. He went self published with his graphic novel, making something extremely personal to him and based on his own life. Self published is the direction within the industry that i am very interested in. In regards of my own work I love creating and writing my own stories and characters. I have a very stylized way of drawing that is very personal to me so I would rather draw it all myself then work with a team of illustrators. I create short comics about my own characters often getting inspiration from my own life experiences very often. I love making things people can relate to and also enjoy. I hope to one day draw and produce my own graphic novel, so i look forward to working within this industry one day!
